Life-settlement questions.

Plain-language answers to help you understand the process and prepare a discussion with qualified professionals.

What policyowners ask

How is selling different from surrendering a policy?

A surrender ends the policy with the insurance company in exchange for any available cash surrender value, after applicable charges. A life settlement sells the existing policy to a third party, which becomes the owner and pays future premiums. Ask about the net amounts, costs, and consequences of each option.

Can any life insurance policy be sold?

No. Whether a transaction is possible depends on the policy, the insured person's circumstances, applicable law, and a buyer's requirements. This site does not determine eligibility. A licensed professional where required can explain the requirements that apply to a particular policy.

How much could a policy be worth?

There is no standard amount. Age, health, premiums, the death benefit, policy terms, and buyer interest can affect offers. This site does not value policies, obtain bids, or promise an offer. Ask a professional to explain all costs and the amount you would receive after them.

What happens to my beneficiaries?

In a life settlement, the buyer receives the sold policy's death benefit when the insured person dies. The original beneficiaries no longer receive that benefit under the sold policy. Consider their needs and discuss any remaining coverage with your own advisers.

Are life-settlement proceeds tax-free?

Do not assume that proceeds are tax-free. Tax treatment depends on your circumstances. A cash payment may also affect eligibility for public assistance, including Medicaid. Consult your own tax and benefits advisers before agreeing to a sale.

Who receives my medical and policy information?

A prospective purchaser may require personal, medical, and policy information to evaluate a transaction. Ask who can access it, whether it can be shared, and whether ongoing health updates are required. This website has no form for collecting that information.

Does Sell My Life Policy Town buy policies or act as my broker?

No. This is an educational website, not a licensed broker or provider. Its purpose is to help you understand life settlements and prepare to speak with a licensed life-settlement partner. We do not buy or assess policies, seek offers, negotiate transactions, or give individualized advice. Confirm any receiving company's role and required licenses with your state insurance department.

Can I request information online or call someone?

Not yet. No receiving-company form is connected, and a phone number has not been provided. The planned online form will be hosted by the receiving company. Its identity, privacy terms, referral disclosures, and technical setup must be verified before access opens. Scheduling and webinars are also unavailable.

Choose how to ask your questions.

The planned next step is an online request to a receiving company or a phone conversation. Neither option is available yet.

Before sharing information, know which company you are contacting, whom it represents, and how it is paid.

  • Ask whether selling fits your family's needs.
  • Ask about alternatives, costs, and required licenses.
  • Read the receiving company's privacy terms.
